Prepare with confidence.

Original, practical guidance for households, business operators, farms and produce buyers.

Start with evidence

What to note before requesting help.

The species, location and activity pattern affect the response. Note the room or zone, time of day, number seen, damage, droppings, odour, bites, tracks or nesting material. Photographs help with triage but do not always replace an inspection.

Do

Keep the area accessible, protect people and animals, and share previous treatment information.

Do not

Mix products, move suspect belongings throughout the building or disturb an active stinging-insect nest.

01 · Before service

Prepare for a pest-control inspection

Good information helps the technician focus on the likely source.

  • Record where and when the pest was seen
  • Keep a safe specimen or clear photograph if practical
  • Mention children, pets, allergies and sensitive areas
  • Avoid moving infested belongings between rooms
02 · Home prevention

Reduce common pest pressure

Prevention focuses on food, water, shelter and access.

  • Store food and animal feed securely
  • Repair leaks and remove avoidable standing water
  • Manage waste and food residue promptly
  • Seal practical gaps after active routes are assessed
03 · Commercial IPM

Build a useful pest programme

An IPM programme connects observations to site actions.

  • Define who reports sightings and who approves work
  • Map receiving, storage, production and waste risks
  • Review proofing, sanitation and maintenance findings
  • Track trends instead of treating every sighting in isolation
04 · Food & stock

Respond to suspect stored-product pests

Early isolation can limit spread between goods and storage areas.

  • Separate suspect goods from unaffected stock
  • Check nearby spillage, dust and older products
  • Retain labels and delivery information
  • Do not apply unapproved products to food or feed
05 · Farm buying

Request current farm availability

Season, harvest and order size affect supply.

  • List the exact product and quantity
  • Include the required collection or delivery date
  • State retail, wholesale, retailer or market use
  • Provide the destination for a transport quotation
06 · Wholesale

Plan a larger produce order

Clear specifications make quotations faster and more useful.

  • Discuss grade and packaging expectations
  • Ask about current and upcoming harvest timing
  • Confirm collection, transport and receiving access
  • Receive written price and availability confirmation

When to call promptly

Some situations should not wait.

Possible structural damage: termite workings, weakened timber or rapidly changing damage.

Health or contamination concern: rodents, cockroaches or flies in food, healthcare or vulnerable-occupant areas.

Stinging risk: an active nest near people, animals, doors or work zones.

Fast spread: bed bugs, stored-product insects or activity moving between units and stock.
